So, do you live in Montreal and love dancing (or dance challenges)? Well, better grab yourself an espresso and put on your thinking/dancing hat because I’ve got some pretty exciting opportunities for you this upcoming fall.
At Swing Connexion, Myriam Baril (you might have seen her at a billion competition events throughout the years in Montréal) and I will be teaching two troupes:
Cabaret – Join the 2013 Cabaret Canadian Champions for some pretty awesome sexy but classy dancing. Innovative routines, hard work, and some fun times is what you can expect from this troupe.
Rehearsals are on Monday from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, starting Sept 9th (subject to change).
Partnered Blues – The newest addition to the Swing Connexion family, the blues troupe will focus on both vintage and modern blues dance vocabulary, culminating in a badass choreography. There will be opportunities for members in this troupe to compete and perform at an out of town blues event as well as in Montréal.
Rehearsals are on Thursday from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, starting September 19th (subject to change)!
Check out the video of my last partnered blues routine performed at Cats Corner:
Here’s another one earlier this year:
For information on SCX auditions for both troupes will be on August 17th. Check this facebook page for more info: https://www.facebook.com/events/487495401337610/
Solo Dance Troupe
In addition, I’ll be continuing the solo dance project at the Cat’s Corner studio. This has been one of my favourite projects in the past year as we got to really just freak out with our solo dancing. Check out our first routine (a gospel routine no less!) at Swing L’ete:
We already had our auditions last week but I am still looking for about one or two additional dancers to round out the team (especially if you are a dude, but that’s not really a requirement heh!).
Rehearsals are on Sundays from 11:00am to 12:00pm.
For the fall semester we will be working on three routines: I’ve Got a Testimony (gospel dance), Black & Tan Fantasy (jazz+blues), This Train (fast jukin’). In case you didn’t know, the solo troupe is pretty unique in its structure:
- 1 hour of group practices for formations and movement training on Sunday mornings from 11am to 12pm at Cats Corner.
- 30-45 minutes of weekly one-on-one privates for solo movement training with Randy. We’ll work out a schedule that works for the both of us.
So every week, you’d get not only group time to work on the routine but also some individual lovin’ to work on your quality of movement. In this format, we can work on routines a lot faster, smarter, and ultimately, perform more!
